Tom Curley of AP explaining “protect, point, pay”, their new technological and legal structure for distributing news. They aren’t throwing up a moat but they are hiring lots of lawyers to go after free-riders like Google. They are putting DRM on content even though DRM doesn’t work. They are enforcing legal agreements between participants even though the internet lets anyone play without legal agreement. They are quite nuts.
