Quite like the look of the Nook eBook reader from Barnes & Noble, competition for Amazon’s Kindle. Cute name, nicely designed and the small LCD colour touch-screen for navigation leaving the bigger eInk display for reading could work well. Though I didn’t see an on-screen keyboard so how do you enter words to search through millions of books? Other questions abound; web-browser of any sort? open eBook formats supported? re-download of books?

The Apple Magic Mouse is terribly named but beautifully designed. Multi-touch on a mouse sounds good in theory but I hope it feels better in the hand than the Mighty Mouse and has a better click action. Good riddance to the track-ball that got clogged quicker than a music festival’s toilets.

We have always been a hyper-indignant society. Ubiquitous communication just makes us a connected hyper-indignant society.

The soccer world cup in South Africa next year will have 10 times the carbon impact than the benchmark 1996 German soccer world cup. That is the headline. The reality? Air travel accounts for 67% of the footprint for next year’s tournament. The German event didn’t include air travel in its totals. And don’t think “oh but that was in Europe, everyone drove to the event” because last time I checked Europe is awash in cheap airlines. Europeans fly from from Cork to Dublin which is 221 kilometers. Dublin to Johannesburg is 9415 kilometers.
