Removing password-masks from web forms is going to be a lot harder than Jacob thinks. I ran across a site that did it awhile back and had to think long and hard whether the website was safe or not (it was, but my initial impression was that it was unsafe.) People do expect passwords to be masked. §

An overlooked problem of CSS sprites is that while the image may compress well and download fast it must be uncompressed on the client side to be used and this can take up inordinant amounts of memory. §
